An allegation has been made against Manik Mia, prison guard of Dhaka Central Prison, Keraniganj that he arranged family visits and hospitality for prisoners in medical facilities in exchange for money.
It is known that at 5 pm on August 11, Manik Mia brought two victims to ward No. 701 of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. The two prisoners are Robin Biswas (36) and Abdul Alim (35). One of them is suffering from abdominal pain and another is suffering from breathing problem. Prison guard Manik Mia called the family members of the prisoners to meet them at the medical center.
A prison guard, who did not want to be named, said that Manik Mia brought prisoners to the hospital several times. Then he help them to call their home, bring their wives and arrange homemade food without the permission of the authorities. Not only that, he help them talk to their relatives on mobile every now and then.
To know more about this matter, the reporter of The Report.Live went to Dhaka Medical Center on August 12 and learned that Manik Mia brought a victim to Ward No. 701 on the evening of August 11. Shortly after, prisoner`s relatives brought him food from home.
While talking about this with Rozina, a patient admitted to room 701. She said, “The patient who was brought by the police the other day, his wife and child also came to see him. They also brought home cooked food. However, while they were leaving, there was an extreme quarrel with the police over money. Later, another policeman seemed to have stopped the fight.”
The truth of the incident is known by talking to other patients in that ward.
When asked if it was out of the rules to meet the prisoners without permission, Noor Mohammad, who is in charge of the prison guards of Dhaka Medical, avoided the topic by saying that `no such incident happened`.
In this regard, Jail Superintendent Subhash Kumar Ghosh said, if any jail guard commits any such crime, the punishment provided as per the jail rules will be given.
