In the continuing anti-militancy campaign that began on October 10, 2022, as many as 12 members of the new militant group Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and 14 members of the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) have so far been arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of RAB’s legal and media wing, claimed this from a press briefing at zila parishad office of Bandarban on Thursday.
After the arrest of five suspected members of the brand-new militant group Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya from Bandarban’s Thanchi and Rowangchhari upazilas, he briefed the reporters. The alleged were taken to Bandarban town’s RAB office in the morning.
“Besides, we have a list of 55 people who took training in the hills being inspired by militancy. Legal steps will be taken against those who have been arrested, said Moin.
The spokesperson of the elite force added that additionally, the agency had a list of 55 individuals who underwent training in the hills after being motivated by militancy.
According to Moin, individuals who have been arrested will face legal action.
The Chittagong Hill Tracts-based armed group KNF and the Amir (head) of Jamatul Ansar fil Hindal Sharqiya reached to an understanding in 2021 regarding militant training in the region through the following year. Around Tk 3 lakh per month and meal expenditures for all KNF members were to be covered according to the agreement, Moin stated.
