A tenth-grade student in Rajshahi allegedly stabbed a teacher after luring him closer by shouting “help, help.” The incident, which occurred around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Sapura area, has circulated widely on social media.

The injured teacher, Maruf Karkhi (34), an assistant Bengali teacher at Rajshahi Cantonment Public School and College, sustained injuries to his neck and hand.

He was treated at the Rajshahi Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where he required three stitches, before being sent home.

According to school authorities, the student, 16, had studied up to grade eight at the same institution but was issued a transfer certificate (TC) in 2023 for “unruly behavior.” She is currently enrolled in another school. Authorities believe her resentment over the TC may have motivated the attack.

Witnesses said the girl was waiting outside the school when classes ended. As Maruf Karkhi left on his scooter, she called for help. Thinking she was in trouble, the teacher stopped, only for the girl to suddenly strike at his neck with a knife. He tried to block the attack with his hand, sustaining cuts on both his hand and neck. Locals detained the student and informed the school.

Her parents were later summoned, and she was handed over to them. No legal action has yet been taken. Video footage of the incident shows the girl using abusive language.

School officials declined to make a formal comment, while Boalia Police Station officer-in-charge Mostak Ahmed confirmed that no complaint had been filed by the school authorities.
