Shitalakhya launch capsize: Five bodies recovered, probe bodies formed

Three separate committees have been formed by the shipping ministry, shipping department and district administration to probe the incident of a passenger launch capsize after it was hit by a cargo vessel in Shitalakhya river of Narayanganj.

The launch carrying around 30 passengers sank in the Shitalakkhya River as a cargo vessel hit it near Al Aminnagar in Narayanganj Sunday afternoon.

Rescuers of the fire service and the civil defence recovered five bodies so far.

The shipping ministry formed a probe body led by the joint secretary of the ministry ANM Bazlur Rashid. The committee has been asked to submit the probe report within three working days.

Besides, the shipping department formed another committee headed by engineer Obaidullah Ibn Bashir. The three-member committee has been directed to submit the report within 15 working days.

In the meantime, an additional magistrate of Narayanganj district Mohammed Shamim Bepary has been named to head another six-member committee which has been asked to submit the report tomorrow.
