A trial tribunal here convicted two persons and sentenced them to suffer different terms of behind the bar on charge of their involvement in raping a school girl in the district around nine years back.

found the convicts guilty of the offense and pronounced the verdict in presence of them on Monday afternoon.
One of the convicts identified as Jahangir Hossain, 22, son of Mahatab Ali of Baladiar village under Charghat Upazila, has been sentenced to life term imprisonment. He was also fined Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer three months more jail.
Another convict Sabuj Ali, 23, son of Hossain Ali of Krishnapur village under Puthiya Upazila, has been sentenced to 14 years jail and fined Taka 20,000 in default to suffer one month more behind the bar.
Two other accused of the case were acquitted as the charge brought against them could not be proved beyond doubt.
Referring to the prosecution story Special Public Prosecutor Shamsunnahar Mukti said the accused raped the schoolgirl in accomplice with each other on September 14, 2013.
Subsequently, a case was recorded with Puthiya Police Station and police pressed charges accusing them upon completion of the investigation.
After examining the recorded depositions of the prosecution witnesses and other relevant evidence the tribunal handed down the verdict.
