The Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Kaliganj in Lalmonirhat has been accused of assaulting a young man while he was waiting in line at a petrol pump.
The allegation surfaced after a video of the incident spread widely on social media, showing Samima Akter Jahan confronting the youth at a filling station in the Chaparhat area.
In the footage, the official is seen grabbing the man by the collar and slapping him multiple times as he stood in a queue for fuel.
Witnesses said the youth, identified as Nodi Roy, had come to collect fuel using a motorcycle and fuel card on behalf of a sick person. They alleged that his explanation was ignored during the altercation.
It was also claimed that his motorcycle key was taken and later returned after protests from bystanders.
The UNO, however, denied allegations of physical assault.
Locals further alleged that she displayed aggressive behaviour at another fuel station in Tushbhandar Bazar on the same day, including threatening people in line and knocking down a motorcycle.
The incident has triggered public criticism, with calls for an inquiry into the matter.
