UNO’s vehicle vandalized amid NCP’s ‘March to Gopalganj’ tensions

Amid escalating tensions surrounding the National Citizens’ Party’s (NCP) ‘March to Gopalganj’ program, a group of attackers vandalized the vehicle of the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Gopalganj, just hours after a police vehicle was set on fire in an earlier incident.

The attack occurred around 11:00 AM on Wednesday in Gandiasur area of Boultoli Union, under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila.

UNO M Rakibul Hasan confirmed the incident to The Daily Star. He said he was traveling to the area to monitor the law and order situation related to the NCP’s program when a group of 20 to 30 unidentified individuals suddenly launched an attack on his vehicle, damaging it severely.

Although no injuries were reported, the UNO said security personnel, including members of the army, quickly arrived at the scene and rescued them. He confirmed that he is now safe.

This incident follows earlier reports of vandalism and arson targeting a police vehicle in the same upazila earlier in the day, escalating concerns over security during the NCP’s month-long campaign.
