We are facing many difficulties: Nahid

National Citizens‍‍` Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has said that the party is going through immense challenges, citing recent incidents of political obstruction and violence, including the events in Gopalganj.

“We are in the middle of many difficulties. You have seen what happened to us in Gopalganj. There are obstacles in various places. We seek your prayers—those are most important to us,” Nahid told families of the July Uprising martyrs in Chattogram during a courtesy visit on Sunday morning.

At around 10:30 AM, NCP leaders and activists met with the families of those killed during the July mass uprising at Motel Saikat near New Market in Chattogram city. During the meeting, they inquired about the well-being of the families and expressed solidarity.

Reflecting on his time in government, Nahid Islam said, “When I was in power—or when those from our side were in government—we tried to take initiatives to support the families of the July martyrs. But unfortunately, those initiatives often didn’t reach the ground level effectively or were delayed, as collaborators of past dictators still remain embedded within different layers of the administration.”

He also stressed that their visit was not political but personal. “We are not here as a political party. We were part of the uprising, and so were your family members. We see you as part of our extended family. The martyrs didn’t belong to any party—they gave their lives for the country,” Nahid said.

Among those present during the meeting were NCP‍‍`s Chief Organizer for the Northern Region Sarjis Alam, Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara, and Chattogram Coordinator Zobairul Arif, along with other party leaders and activists.

As part of the ongoing countrywide campaign titled “Build the Nation: July March,” the NCP began its journey from Cox’s Bazar yesterday. The march started from the city’s bus terminal area and was supposed to reach Chakaria, but a planned rally there had to be cancelled after the stage was vandalized.

Later in the evening, the party held a roadside event in Bandarban district, before arriving in Chattogram city late at night. Following the morning visit with the martyr families, the NCP delegation set off for Rangamati.

After the Rangamati leg of the march, the party is scheduled to return to Chattogram city this evening for further programs.
