A woman has attempted to throw a "chappal" (slipper) at suspended Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee, who has been arrested in connection with a school recruitment scam.
The incident happened when he was being escorted out of a hospital in India by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, reported TDS.
However, the slipper thrown by the woman missed Chatterjee. He was taken to state-run hospital in Joka in south Kolkata for daily medical check-up.
The middle-aged woman, identified as Shubra Ghorui, told reporters that she has vented her anger at Chatterjee after seizure of around Rs 50 crore in cash, along with gold, by the ED from two apartments of Arpita Mukherjee, a close associate of Chatterjee.
"I have come here to hit (Partha) Chatterjee with my slippers. He has built apartment after apartment and accumulated so much cash when people are without any job. After cheating people he is travelling in AC cars. He must be dragged with a rope…I will walk back home barefoot," the woman from Amtala said.
"It is not only my anger but that of lakhs and lakhs of people of West Bengal," Ghorui said, adding "I would have been very happy if the shoes had hit him. I will not take the shoes back."
After the incident, Chatterjee, who has been sacked as a minister and as TMC Secretary General last week, was then whisked away in a vehicle from the hospital premises by ED security personnel.
