Abdul Hannan Masud served show-cause notice by NCP

Abdul Hannan Masud has been instructed to submit his explanation to the head of the NCP’s disciplinary committee within the next three days.

The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) has issued a show-cause notice to its Senior Joint Chief Coordinator, Abdul Hannan Masud.

The notice was issued today, Wednesday, and was announced through a post on NCP’s verified Facebook page.

The post includes a copy of the notice signed by the party’s Joint Member Secretary (Office), Saleh Uddin Sifat.

According to the notice, on Tuesday, three individuals were detained by Dhanmondi police for allegedly causing a disturbance in a residential area while identifying themselves as "coordinators."

One of the detainees was Saiful Islam Rabbi, the Mohammadpur unit convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who had previously been relieved of his duties by the central committee on grounds of moral misconduct.

Despite this, Abdul Hannan Masud reportedly went to the police station and secured the release of the three detainees by providing a written undertaking.

In response to this incident, Abdul Hannan Masud has been asked to explain his actions in writing and justify why organizational action should not be taken against him.

He has been instructed to submit his explanation to the head of the NCP’s disciplinary committee within the next three days.

The background to the incident involves an alleged attempt to create a disturbance in Dhanmondi on Monday night, when several young men claiming to be members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement attempted to incite unrest in an effort to have a businessman arrested — despite there being no case filed against him.

The police did not arrest the businessman but instead detained the three youths involved. Abdul Hannan Masud later visited the station on Tuesday afternoon, and according to police, the three were released into his custody.
