The administration is working in favour of the BNP in many areas, holding an election under such an administration is not possible, alleged Nahid Islam, the Convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP) today.

He made the remarks while speaking to reporters this afternoon after a meeting with Nicole Chulick, the US deputy assistant secretary of state at the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, reports The Daily Star.

"At present, the field-level administration does not appear to be working impartially. Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party are being attacked in various areas, and the administration remains silent in those places. We spoke about these issues," said Nahid.

"The administration is playing a silent role in the incidents of extortion in rural areas. We told them

that if such an administration remains in place, then it is not possible to hold elections under it. For a level playing field, a neutral administration, bureaucracy, and police must be ensured," added the NCP convener.

When asked what they discussed in the meeting, Nahid said, "We spoke about the reform proposals we submitted to the reform commission. We mentioned our three key demands — reform, justice, and the election of a national assembly."

Nahid told the reporters that they said they are not advocating for minimal reforms, but rather for fundamental structural reforms of the state.

"Without carrying out these changes, any election held would not be acceptable. Whether the National Citizen Party will participate in such an election would also remain under consideration," he added.

Apart from Nahid, Akhter Hossen, member secretary of the NCP; Samanta Shermeen, senior joint convener, and Tasnim Jara, senior joint member secretary were in the four-member delegation of the NCP.
