The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has dismissed recent media reports suggesting that the party has already given “green signals” to certain aspirants for the upcoming national election. BNP termed such reports “fabricated” and urged party activists not to be misled.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in Naya Paltan on Tuesday (23 September), BNP leaders said the party is making full preparations for the election and will nominate candidates through its established internal processes at the appropriate time. Only popular and acceptable candidates, vetted under party rules, will be selected, they emphasized.
BNP reiterated that no electoral constituency has yet received any official nomination or “green light” from the party. Performance in party activities and grassroots acceptance will be key criteria for candidate selection, as decided by BNP’s Parliamentary Board, whose decisions are final.
The party accused some quarters of spreading misinformation and propaganda in the media and on social platforms to create division, confusion, and dissatisfaction among BNP members. They alleged that vested interests are attempting to undermine the interim government’s path toward restoring voting rights and to rehabilitate “failed” political forces.
BNP also warned supporters against believing unauthorized lists or names circulating in newspapers and online platforms, which it described as a “conspiracy” to spark internal disputes. Instead, it urged activists to remain united and follow the directives coming from the party’s leadership to ensure electoral strength.
