Maulana Mamunul Haque, Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, has stated that it is a great injustice to compare BNP and Awami League on the same scale.
According to him, from an Islamic political perspective, BNP plays the role of Abu Talib, while Awami League consistently takes on the role of Abu Jahl.
He made these remarks on Tuesday, March 18, during his speech as the chief speaker at the prize-giving ceremony for the final round of a "Hifzul Quran and Quran Recitation Competition" organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at the TSC Auditorium of Dhaka University.
During the event, Mamunul Haque said that the independence of Bangladesh must be protected through the cooperation of nationalist and Islamic forces.
He also pointed out that although neither BNP nor Awami League is an Islamic political organization, there are significant historical differences between the two.
Explaining this point, Mamunul Haque said, “BNP and Awami League don’t practice Islamic politics, and their political philosophies are different. Just like Abu Jahl and Abu Talib—neither followed Islam, but comparing them as equals is the height of ignorance."
BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Amanullah Aman also spoke at the event, noting that BNP’s founder, Ziaur Rahman, had taken top students from various educational institutions on the `Hijbul Bahar` ship, where they competed based on merit.
Later, Khaleda Zia took the top two students from each board of education abroad and even to the United Nations sessions. She also provided stipends for girls.
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury said, "Student politics under Chhatra League corrupted our society. It destroyed our social and cultural values. After the fifth, there was a shift in national politics and leadership."
Another BNP Joint Secretary General, Habib Un Nabi Khan, stated, "Chhatra Dal is an organization of meritorious students.
Today, we listened to Quran recitations by young brothers and sisters. They recited beautifully. Chhatra Dal should continue to organize such programs."
BNP`s Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin mentioned that Tarique Rahman had suggested Chhatra Dal organize this Quran recitation event.
He claimed it was the first of its kind on the campus and that the "fascist" Hasina government had previously not allowed such events.
Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam said, "We have a responsibility towards madrasa students. As Chhatra Dal, we hope that future elected representatives will pay special attention to the needs of madrasa students."
