A BNP delegation is holding a meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus today (16 April), following the party‍‍`s request for a discussion regarding the upcoming national election and reforms.

The party‍‍`s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with Standing Committee members Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Nazrul Islam Khan entered the CA‍‍`s official residence State Guest House Jamuna at 12pm, reports The Business Standard.

Earlier, the BNP requested an appointment with the chief adviser to resolve confusion regarding the national election.

"We have sought time to meet the chief adviser. After meeting with him, we will talk about this

issue," BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed earlier said.

BNP senior leaders told UNB that the party will deliver a ‍‍`strong message‍‍` that it will not accept any attempt to delay the national election beyond December this year.

They will also urge the chief adviser to issue a clear statement regarding the election timeline.

Earlier on 25 March, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus reiterated that the national election will be held between December this year and June next year.

"I have said before and I am reiterating again, the election will take place between December this year and June next year. We want the upcoming election to be the most free, fair, and credible in the history of Bangladesh," he said during his speech to the nation.

For this, the Election Commission has started making all necessary preparations, the chief adviser said.

"I hope that political parties will begin preparing for the elections with great enthusiasm and excitement."
