The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially submitted its opinion to the National Consensus Commission regarding constitutional reforms.

In its submission, BNP emphasized that the power to issue national identity cards and determine parliamentary constituencies should remain with the Election Commission.

The party also stated its objection to the inclusion of the Amendment of 24 in the Constitution and expressed a preference for the earlier constitutional proposal.

On Sunday, March 23, a delegation from BNP, led by Salah Uddin Ahmed, a member of the party‍‍`s standing committee, submitted the written opinion at the office of the National Consensus Commission, located in the Parliament Building.

This submission comes after the National Consensus Commission began its formal talks on March 20 to finalize the recommendations of various reform commissions.

On the first day of dialogue, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) participated, agreeing with 120 out of the 166 recommendations on issues such as constitutional amendments, electoral reforms, public administration, anti-corruption measures, and judicial reforms.

The dialogue continued on March 21, when leaders from the Khilafat Majlis and the Labour Party joined the discussions.

Earlier, on March 6, the National Consensus Commission had sent letters to 37 political parties requesting their views on the 166 key recommendations related to constitutional reforms, the electoral system, public administration, anti-corruption efforts, and judicial changes.

The Commission has been holding meetings with political parties to gather their input on these matters.
