Nasir Uddin Patoari, Chief Organizer of the National Citizen Party (NCP), stated that if elections are held, the BNP will emerge as an even greater fascist force than Sheikh Hasina.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (May 21) at a protest rally organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan chapter of the NCP in the capital.
The protest was held by NCP’s North City unit, demanding the reconstitution of the Election Commission and the holding of local government elections.
Speakers at the rally called for the resignation of the election commissioners, alleging that a controversial commission was hastily formed.
They announced that their movement would continue until the current commissioners resign.
From Wednesday morning, party leaders and activists began gathering in front of the Election Commission building in Agargaon.
Criticizing legal advisor Prof. Asif Nazrul, economic advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, and planning advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, Patoari accused them of acting as spokespersons for the BNP.
He warned that they would be forced to resign, claiming they are leading the country’s legal and economic systems toward collapse.
He further stated that Asif Nazrul and Salehuddin would be ousted, just as previous rulers were overthrown by the people.
He asserted that NCP would not allow any election to take place without a restructured Election Commission, which he said is currently functioning like a BNP party office.
Patoari also alleged that the BNP has resorted to “politics of the dead” and is being funded by the Awami League while making bold statements and even shutting down city hall operations.
He declared that the Mujib-era constitution would no longer be acceptable in Bangladesh.
