Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin has confirmed that the Election Commission is all set to hold the 13th National Parliament Election based on the timeline suggested by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, December 17, at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, the CEC mentioned that they’ve been making preparations for the election since the day they took office.

He assured that all necessary steps are in progress to ensure the election runs smoothly.

When asked about the Election Commission’s readiness, the CEC said, “We are fully aligned with the indications given by the Chief Adviser in his speech yesterday. We are fully prepared for the tasks we need to undertake as per his (the Chief Adviser’s) statement. Whenever he wishes…”

On Monday, during his address to the nation on Victory Day, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus hinted at a possible timeline for the upcoming national elections, saying, “The election can be scheduled between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026.”

In regard to re-drawing the boundaries of parliamentary constituencies, the CEC assured that the process would be fair.

He added that if any past boundary changes were made to unfairly benefit or harm any candidates, the Commission would look into those cases and make corrections if needed.

When questioned about whether the election would use the current voter list or a new one, the CEC explained that a finalized new voter list would be ready in two months.

After that, the EC will gather information by visiting households to update the list.

He pointed out that some voters have passed away, some were left off the list, some have gone abroad, and there have been cases of duplicate voters. These issues will be carefully reviewed and resolved.
