A Dhaka court has placed four individuals, including Sulaiman Selim, son of Haji Selim and former Member of Parliament for Dhaka-7, on remand in connection with a murder case.
On Wednesday, November 27, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain issued the remand orders after hearing arguments from both sides.
Along with Sulaiman Selim, the other accused are former Food Minister Kamrul Islam, former Law Minister Anisul Huq, and former Chief Whip ASM Feroz.
The court has granted a 7-day remand for Selim, while Kamrul Islam and Anisul Huq were remanded for 3 days each, and ASM Feroz for 2 days.
Earlier, the investigation officers requested a 10-day remand for several accused. For example, ASM Feroz was linked to the Imran murder case from Jatrabari Police Station, while Sulaiman Selim and Kamrul Islam were connected to the Khalid Saifullah murder case from Lalbagh.
Selim was also implicated in the Rakib murder case at Chawkbazar Police Station, and Anisul Huq in the Jannatul Ferdous murder case from Jatrabari.
In addition, on Wednesday, police requested the arrest of former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Education Minister Dipu Moni, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, MP Sadeq Khan, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu, and Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon in separate cases.
During the hearing, prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi argued in favor of the remand, claiming that the accused were involved in mass killings in July and August and must face justice. On the other hand, defense lawyers argued that their clients were being targeted because of their political roles.
After hearing both sides, Judge Mohammad Imran Hossain approved the remand and granted the requests for arrest.
