Former Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He was 78.
According to DMCH police camp in-charge Inspector Md Faruk, Humayun passed away at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) around 8:20am on Monday.
His son, Manjurul Majid Mahmud Sadi, confirmed the death in a verified Facebook post, writing, “My father is no more. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Please pray for his soul.”
In a statement, the Department of Prisons said Humayun, a division-class remand prisoner, had been admitted to DMCH for treatment of uncontrolled bowel and bladder complications. His condition deteriorated and he was moved to the ICU on Sunday afternoon. He died there Monday morning.
Humayun was arrested on September 24 from Dhaka’s Gulshan area by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in connection with a murder case filed in Narsingdi. A Dhaka court later ordered his detention in prison.
The case stemmed from an August 4 incident last year in Madhabdi, Narsingdi, when the former minister was accused of involvement in attacks and killings during an anti-discrimination student movement.
