Awami League Presidium Member and former minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain has passed away. He breathed his last at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Square Hospital. His family confirmed the news of his death.
He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for several weeks due to complications related to old age. He was later placed on life support.
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain was elected as an Awami League candidate from the Chattogram-1 (Mirsharai) constituency in the 1973, 1986, 1996, 2008, 2014, and 2018 national elections. He was also one of the framers of Bangladesh’s Constitution in 1972.
During his political career, he served as a member of the Awami League Presidium. He also held ministerial responsibilities at various times, including the Ministry of Housing and Public Works and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Born on January 12, 1943, in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram, Mosharraf Hossain completed his secondary education at Chittagong Collegiate School and higher secondary education at Sir Ashutosh Government College. He later earned a BSc in Mining Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore in 1966.
It is worth noting that following the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024, he was arrested in October. He later fell ill in August 2025 and remained under medical care. He was subsequently released on bail.
