The government has announced plans to train 150,000 police personnel in preparation for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting on Monday at the state guest house Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
The meeting focused on the country’s law and order situation and the preparedness of security forces for the national polls.
At a subsequent briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, confirmed the training initiative.
He stated that the Inspector General of Police informed the meeting that the training will be conducted in phases across September, October, and November, with a focus on election-related duties.
Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, added that additional security measures have been instructed for polling centers identified as vulnerable.
The Bangladesh Army also shared plans during the meeting to deploy 60,000 troops as part of the election’s striking force.
Discussions were also held on administrative reshuffles ahead of the election. Azad Majumder noted that while not all areas will see changes, necessary transfers and postings will be made wherever required.
Key attendees at the meeting included the Home Affairs Adviser, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Military Secretary, and Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division.
