Abdul Hannan Masud, one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, openly declared his candidacy after August 5. He was also honored with a grand reception in his hometown of Hatiya, Noakhali.
He is considering running for election from the Noakhali-6 constituency, though his strongest competitor in this constituency is former BNP MP Fazlul Azim.
From 1991 to 2008, the candidates from both BNP and Awami League were elected in the Noakhali-6 constituency.
However, BNP`s Fazlul Azim was elected twice.
In 2008, he was elected as an independent candidate, making him the only independent MP in that parliament.
Later, he contested the 2018 election under the BNP`s symbol, "Sheaf of Paddy," and is currently still active in BNP politics. As a result, many consider Fazlul Azim to be a tough competitor for Hannan Masud.
