Amid protests over controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad by two Indian ruling party officials, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has thanked the government of India for taking action against them.
"We strongly condemn the insult of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wherever it happens. The government of India has taken legal action against those who made such (derogatory) statements. We extend our gratitude towards the government of India in this regard," he said.
Hasan, also the Awami League (AL) joint general secretary, was addressing a triennial conference of Gaibandha Municipality unit of Awami League on the premises of Central Shaheed Minar of the Gaibandha town as chief guest on Friday, reports BSS.
Indian police filed FIRs against both BJP leaders on Thursday.
The minister also said that strict measures would be taken against unnecessary confusion or incitement towards such incidents.
"In fact, we do not tolerate to offend any religion and if anyone tries to create chaos in this country with the incidents of other countries, it will be suppressed with iron hands," he warned.
