Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal warned Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) that the law-enforcers will crack down strictly if they would create any public suffering or destructive act in the name of holding mass sit-in program.
He said this while talking to the reporters after inaugurating Mujib Corner at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters on Tuesday.
“BNP did not face any obstruction during its previous peaceful programs. Our law enforcement agencies are capable enough to handle any such situation which they (BNP) attempt to stage that will disrupt people’s routine lives,” the minister remarked.
Senior Secretary to the Public Security Division Md Aminul Islam Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Commissioner of DMP Khandkar Golam Faruk and other high officials concerned were present.
BNP wants to hold a strong mass sit-in program – the second initiative of their simultaneous movement – like the mass rally on December 10, last year, urging 10-point demand including the resignation of the current government and holding the election under a neutral government.
Including Dhaka, the mass sit-in will be held on Wednesday in every division of the country.
According to party sources of Awami League, the ruling party directed the leaders and activists to guard the streets during BNP’s mass sit-in program scheduled on January 11.
