Jamaat-e-Islami has confirmed its participation in the upcoming second phase of the national consensus commission dialogue, following a one-day boycott.
The decision was announced today by the party’s Assistant Secretary General, Hamidur Rahman Azad, who stated that the party has "positively reconsidered" joining the talks.
The boycott occurred after recent developments in London, where Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the commission`s chief advisor, held a meeting with BNP`s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
Following the meeting, a joint statement proposed potential election dates before Ramadan in February. Jamaat claimed it was "excluded" from this process and protested by abstaining from Tuesday’s session.
However, sources indicate that government representatives later reached out to Jamaat leaders, providing assurances regarding the London discussions and the party’s role in the ongoing political process.
When asked about the specific reasons behind skipping Tuesday`s dialogue, Hamidur Rahman Azad said that the issue would be officially addressed at the dialogue venue.
Jamaat`s delegation in the upcoming session will be led by Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, along with Assistant Secretary Generals Rafiqul Islam Khan and Hamidur Rahman Azad.
