Mamunul Haque among Islamic leaders visiting Afghanistan at Taliban invitation

A delegation of seven prominent Bangladeshi Islamic Islamic leaders, led by Maulana Mamunul Haque, Amir of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, has traveled to Afghanistan at the invitation of the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate.

The Islamic leaders are scheduled to meet and exchange views with Afghanistan’s Chief Justice, several government ministers, senior religious Islamic leaders, and high-ranking officials.

The delegation arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan’s capital, on Wednesday morning. Besides Maulana Mamunul Haque, the group includes Maulana Abdul Hamid, Naib-e-Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh (Pir of Madhupur), Maulana Abdul Awal, Maulana Abdul Haq, Maulana Habibullah Mahmud Qasemi, Maulana Monir Hossain Qasemi, and Maulana Mahbubur Rahman.

According to a press release issued by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis on Thursday, the visit aims to foster direct dialogue with Taliban authorities and senior Islamic leaders, including discussions on issues such as human rights and women’s rights, which have drawn criticism from Western observers.

The delegation will also prioritize strengthening bilateral religious and diplomatic relations, as well as promoting cooperation in trade, healthcare, and education between the two countries. Additionally, the Islamic leaders plan to visit areas affected by recent earthquakes in Afghanistan.

Prior to this trip, on September 14, the Bangladeshi Islamic leaders performed Umrah in Saudi Arabia.

After completing the pilgrimage, they traveled via Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to reach Kabul. The press release also notes that Maulana Mamunul Haque is expected to visit other countries in Central Asia following the Afghanistan trip.
