Nahid Islam, the Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has claimed that while one party used to protect extortionists, corrupt officials, and criminals, a new political force has now taken up that role, continuing the same system of exploitation.
Speaking at a street rally held in the courtyard of Patuakhali Circuit House on Monday at around 2:00 PM, Nahid declared, “We made it clear from the beginning—our struggle is not just to oust Sheikh Hasina, but to bring down the entire structure of corruption and mafia rule.”
Earlier in the day, NCP members organized a street march that covered most of the town. The rally was attended by senior party leaders including Senior Joint Conveners Samanta Sharmin and Tasnim Zara, Joint Convener Mujahid Shahin, and Patuakhali District Coordinator Zaherul Islam. The event was conducted by North Region Chief Coordinator Sarjis Alam.
In his speech, Nahid Islam emphasized the need to dismantle the fascist system and establish a new political order.
He added, “We aimed to bring down this corrupt system through the recent uprising. But the existing power structure never wanted us to stand on our own or maintain a political foothold. Since the uprising, conspiracies against us have continued.”
He also criticized Mujibism, claiming that it has divided the nation and stalled progress. “A new party has emerged to act as the guardian of Mujibism,” he said. “We must resist this new enforcer. We don’t want division, but unity is impossible with those who oppose the people’s uprising.”
Hasnat Abdullah, the party’s Chief Coordinator for the Southern Region, rallied supporters by stating, “We’ll meet you again on the battlefield.
On August 3 last year, we declared the fall of Hasina from the Shaheed Minar. This year, on the same day, we’ll declare our manifesto to build a dictatorship-free Bangladesh. The coming battle will be tougher. If they resist, we’ll fight. And we must win.”
Nahid Islam arrived in Patuakhali late Sunday night with party leaders and spent the night at the Patuakhali Circuit House, gearing up for Monday’s mobilization.
