Jamaat alliance candidate for Dhaka-11 and National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam on Sunday claimed that a fair and equal environment has not yet been ensured for the upcoming national election.
While campaigning in the Badda–Satarkul area in the morning, Nahid alleged that Jamaat alliance workers are facing intimidation ahead of the polls.
He said that although there is no open ban on campaigning, fear is being created to discourage voters from going to polling centres. “These efforts will fail,” he added.
Nahid also accused the Election Commission of showing bias against the Jamaat alliance.
He said he received a show-cause notice for campaigning in support of a referendum, while no action was taken against others who promoted their own parties.
He claimed the election would put an end to extortion, terrorism and land grabbing. “People expected these activities to stop after August 5, but in some cases they continued. February 12 will be the last day for extortionists,” Nahid said.
Referring to local issues, Nahid promised to work for solving the area’s problems if elected.
He said the election is not only about changing power but about creating a new Bangladesh.
“This will be a historic election with new changes in politics,” he said.
Urging people to vote freely, Nahid told voters to think carefully before casting their ballots, saying the election will shape the country’s future.
He also asked residents not to be influenced by money, benefits or false promises.
During his campaign, Nahid called on voters to support the ‘Shapla Kali’ symbol and to vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum.
