Nahid Islam, Convenor of the National Citizens` Party (NCP), has vowed that the flag of the July Uprising will be raised in every household of Gopalganj. He made the statement in a post from his verified Facebook page on Thursday afternoon.
Reiterating his party’s commitment to Gopalganj, Nahid wrote, “Our position on Gopalganj was made clear in yesterday`s statement. The commitment we hold to all of Bangladesh, we equally hold to Gopalganj. We oppose any political discrimination against its residents.”
He accused the Awami League of endangering the lives of Gopalganj`s people for decades, tarnishing the legacy of the Liberation War, and discriminating against the Hindu community. “We will free both Gopalganj and Bangladesh from Mujibist terrorism and fascism,” he declared.
Nahid stated that the NCP came with a peaceful agenda, not a call for war. "Armed attacks were carried out on us with intent to kill by Mujibist terrorists, just as during the July Uprising," he alleged, blaming the Awami League for perpetually pushing the country toward civil conflict.
Despite the violence and killings during the uprising, Nahid criticized those who attempted to rehabilitate the ruling party post-August 5. “Awami League is no longer a political party—it is a terrorist organization,” he asserted.
He claimed that although the NCP has repeatedly called for legal justice over the July killings, many perpetrators from Chhatra League and the Awami League remain free or have evaded justice.
According to Nahid, corrupt officials and fascist collaborators embedded in various layers of the administration are obstructing justice. He also claimed that Chhatra League members from across the country were present in Gopalganj during the recent violence.
Describing the sequence of events, Nahid said that despite morning sabotage, the NCP was granted security clearance and entered Gopalganj. "We didn’t carry out a procession, only held a brief street gathering. Many of our members were blocked from entering the city," he added.
The group was attacked while leaving, but they followed the security instructions provided by law enforcement. “We heard that four of our people have died,” he said.
He condemned any extrajudicial killings and demanded that all terrorists be held accountable through legal means. “This situation could have been avoided if the administration and intelligence agencies had acted in time,” he said.
Calling for a nationwide arrest drive, Nahid demanded an impartial investigation into the violence and arrests based on concrete evidence.
“We committed to going to Gopalganj, and we did. Now, in the name of our martyrs, we pledge that Mujibism will not stand on the soil of Gopalganj or Bangladesh,” he vowed. “We will return. As long as we are alive, we will hold programs in every village and sub-district of Gopalganj.”
He concluded with a tribute to slain activists, saying, “The flag of the July Uprising will fly in every home in Gopalganj. This land will belong to pro-Bangladesh forces, not Mujibists.”
"We will reclaim the Gopalganj of Shaheed Babu Molla and Shaheed Ratin Biswas. The graves of our martyrs in Muksudpur and Kotalipara are not for Mujibists. Not one inch of Bangladesh will be theirs," he asserted.
He ended by thanking those who protested and took to the streets after the attack and announced the party’s next rally in Faridpur.
