Nahid warns against border aggression, vows march if violations continue

Nahid Islam, the Convenor of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has issued a strong warning against continued border aggression by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), alleging repeated violations of international law through grenade attacks and explosions.

“Those days of cross-border domination are over,” he declared. “If any further aggression is attempted, we will call for a long march to the border. We will defend our own land.”

He made these remarks during a street rally held on Sunday in Chapainawabganj, following the party’s “July March.”

The procession began at Shantir Mor in the town at 2:00 PM and passed through Batain Khan Mor, Nimtola Mor, Boroindara Mor, and Gabtola Mor before concluding in front of Nawabganj Government College, where a street meeting was held.

Addressing the rally, Nahid Islam emphasized that the NCP’s movement is rooted in the aspirations of the people following a mass upsurge. “We envision a new Bangladesh—one built on justice, equality, and fundamental reforms. We demand the trial of those responsible for mass killings and call for the implementation of the July Declaration and Charter, which symbolize our shared dream of an inclusive and fair nation.”

He praised Chapainawabganj as a “symbol of border resistance,” invoking the image of farmers sitting with sickles in hand along the frontier. “We are the sons of those farmers,” he said, “who stood firm against fascism and faced bullets without fear.”

Touching on the district’s economic potential, the NCP leader lamented that despite being renowned as the “mango capital” of Bangladesh, successive governments have failed to industrialize mango farming or boost its export potential.

He also highlighted the decline of the once-famous silk industry in the region and called for immediate action to preserve and promote national and cottage industries across the country.
