Leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have started to gather at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram this afternoon to participate in a protest rally, demanding the trial of the Awami League (AL) for mass killings during the July uprising and a ban on the party`s political activities.
The rally, organised by the Dhaka metropolitan chapter of the NCP, is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm, reports The Daily Star.
NCP supporters started to converge at the venue shortly after the Friday prayers.
Central leaders of the party are expected to address the rally.
In a video message, NCP Convener Nahid Islam urged residents of Dhaka to join the protest.
Since April 1, NCP activists have held torch processions in various areas across the capital, calling for the trial of the Awami League.
Central leaders have also been conducting public outreach campaigns, including distributing leaflets to pedestrians and shopkeepers.
