NCP issues show-cause notice to Sarowar Tushar over allegations of moral deviation

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has issued a show-cause notice to its Joint Convener, Sarowar Tushar, following allegations of moral misconduct that surfaced on social media.

The party has asked him to provide a written explanation within five days. Until the matter is resolved, Sarowar Tushar has been instructed to refrain from participating in all organizational activities of the NCP.

The decision was announced in a press release issued by Saleh Uddin Sifat, Joint Office Secretary of the NCP, on Tuesday around 2:30 PM.

In the show-cause notice, the NCP stated, "A moral misconduct allegation has been raised against you. The party’s Convener Md. Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Md. Akhtar Hossain have sought your clear position and explanation regarding the matter. Therefore, you are instructed to submit a written response to the party‍‍`s political council and the investigation committee formed on this issue within the next five days, explaining why organizational action should not be taken against you."

The notice also emphasized that Sarowar Tushar must remain detached from all party activities until a final decision is made, as per the joint directive of the NCP’s Convener and Member Secretary.

The controversy follows the circulation of an audio recording on Monday, which reportedly contained a private conversation between Sarowar Tushar and a central female leader of the NCP.

The audio clip quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate. Several social media users accused Tushar of harassing the woman involved in the conversation.

The NCP’s official notice did not explicitly link the show-cause notice to the viral audio clip.

However, multiple sources within the party confirmed that the decision was prompted by the intense backlash surrounding the leaked audio.

Shortly after the NCP’s announcement, Prothom Alo contacted Sarowar Tushar for a response. He claimed that the social media "trial" against him appeared to be highly planned and motivated.

Speaking to media Tushar said, "No formal complaint has been submitted to the party against me. However, since this issue has gone viral on social media and has become a matter of public discussion, the party has asked me to clarify my position through a show-cause notice. I will provide my written explanation to the party within the stipulated timeframe."
