NCP, police, media faced ‘utterly indefensible’ violence in Gopalganj: CA press wing

The Interim Government has strongly condemned the violent attacks on the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) peaceful rally in Gopalganj, describing the assault as “utterly indefensible” and a blatant violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.

In an official statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s press wing, the government expressed deep concern over the violence that erupted during NCP’s rally, organized to mark the first anniversary of their nationwide student uprising.

According to the statement, participants in the rally—including NCP members, journalists, and police—were viciously attacked, and several vehicles were vandalized.

The government squarely blamed members of the banned Awami League and its former student wing, Chhatra League, for the attacks and assured that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

“This heinous act will not go unpunished,” the statement read. “Those responsible must be swiftly identified and held fully accountable. There is no place for such violence against any citizen of Bangladesh.”

Despite the violence, the rally continued, with the interim authorities praising the resilience and courage of the students who chose not to back down.

The statement also commended the Bangladesh Army and the police for their timely intervention, which helped prevent further escalation.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on political violence, the interim government warned that such brutality would face the full force of justice. “Violence has no place in our nation. Justice must and will prevail,” the statement concluded.
