The newly formed political party, the National Citizens` Party (NCP), is set to submit its registration application to the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday, the final day for registration submissions ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election. The party is currently in the final stages of its preparation.
According to the Election Commission’s requirements, a political party seeking registration must have an active central committee with a functioning central office, offices in at least one-third of the country’s administrative districts, and presence in a minimum of 100 upazilas or metropolitan police stations, each with at least 200 registered voters as party members. Additionally, the party’s constitution must comply with certain mandatory guidelines.
The NCP began forming its district and upazila-level committees on June 1, starting with the coordination committee in Dhaka North. As of Wednesday, the party has formed coordination committees in 33 districts and 127 upazilas.
These committees will later evolve into formal district and upazila convening committees. However, the party’s constitution is yet to be finalized.
In parallel, the NCP is establishing party offices at both the district and upazila levels, and membership forms have already been distributed across these regions.
Local leaders and activists are currently submitting office lease agreements, member lists with national ID copies, and completed membership forms to the party’s central office for verification before submission to the Election Commission.
The NCP has already drafted its party constitution, which focuses on building a democratic, inclusive, and self-reliant state inspired by three key historical moments — 1947, 1971, and 2024.
The party’s stated goals include upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice, protecting human rights, and establishing a youth-driven decentralized governance system to create a “New Bangladesh.”
According to the draft constitution, no party leader will be allowed to serve more than three terms in top positions, and the party head must be elected through a council every three years.
The NCP is set to finalize its constitution during its general meeting, scheduled for Friday at its temporary central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
The party plans to complete the final steps and submit its registration application to the Election Commission on Sunday, the deadline day.
