New leaders of the Democratic Student Union announced

Former coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Movement introduced a new student organization named the Democratic Student Union in a press briefing held in front of Madhur Canteen at Dhaka University today, Wednesday afternoon.

The central committee has been formed with Abu Bakar Majumder as the convener, Tawhid Mohammad Siam as the senior joint convener, Zahid Ahsan as the general secretary, Rifat Rashid as the senior general secretary, Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury as the chief organizer, and Ashrefa Khatun as the spokesperson.

Alongside this, the Dhaka University chapter of the Democratic Student Union was also unveiled. 

Abdul Kader has been appointed as the convener, Limon Mahmud Hasan as the senior joint convener, Mahir Alam as the general secretary, Al Amin Sarkar as the senior general secretary, Hasib Al Islam as the chief organizer, and Rafia Rehnuma Hridi as the spokesperson.

Soon after the announcement of the Democratic Student Union, which is based on the slogan “Education, Unity, Freedom,” dissatisfaction emerged among a faction of students. 

This group started protesting and chanting various slogans, upset about not being allocated leadership positions.

Abu Bakar, a student of Dhaka University‍‍`s 2019-2020 session, was a prominent coordinator during the student uprising against discrimination. 

He had also previously served as the general secretary of Dhaka University’s Democratic Student Power.
