No election until killers are tried and reforms enacted: Nahid

Nahid Islam, Convenor of the National Citizens‍‍` Party (NCP), declared that no national election will be accepted until the killers are brought to justice, systemic reforms are implemented, and the ‍‍`July Charter‍‍` is formally announced.

Speaking at a rally in Magura on Thursday, July 10, as part of the party‍‍`s ongoing July March, Nahid said, “The July movement is not over. Until the people’s demands are fulfilled, our struggle will continue.”

He warned that any attempt to hold elections before the declaration of the July Charter would be rejected by students and the public alike.

“The fascist regime of Hasina and the Awami League must face justice. If elections are attempted without addressing these core demands, a fresh wave of mass protests will erupt,” he stated.

Nahid further demanded the immediate declaration of the July Charter, setting August 5 as the deadline for its implementation.

In this context, he also announced a major rally in Dhaka on August 3 to press for their demands.

Earlier in the day, the July March reached Magura from Jhenaidah around 1:30 PM. The procession paraded through Magura town before concluding at the Bhaina intersection, where a brief rally was held.

Key NCP leaders including Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Samanta Sharmin, and Taskin Jara participated in the march.

After the rally, party leaders met with families of those killed or injured during the July incidents at the Magura District Auditorium. Later, the procession continued toward Narail.
