Rashed Khan, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ganadhikar Parishad, has expressed concern over the health of the party’s President, Nurul Haque Nur, saying that a faction is allegedly obstructing his treatment abroad.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday (6 September) at the garden gate of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Rashed Khan said Nur is experiencing short-term memory loss and has not shown significant improvement in his physical condition.
He added, “Nurul Haque Nur struggles to complete his sentences and often speaks incoherently. Even after taking medication, he sometimes forgets whether he has taken it or not. While talking, he frequently dozes off. He cannot stand steadily on his feet and lacks control over his body. His condition remains worrisome.”
Rashed Khan also addressed recent political tensions, referring to the solidarity rally held yesterday at Shahbagh with over thirty political parties, where participants demanded justice for the attack on Nur. He clarified that following the rally, some individuals went to the National Party office, which was later linked to the Ganadhikar Parishad by the National Party Secretary General.
He stated, “The Ganadhikar Parishad is committed to democratic movements. We were not involved in the incident outside the National Party office, and none of our members present at the Shahbagh rally had any connection to it.”
Rashed Khan further accused certain individuals of attempting to hinder the party’s activities, saying, “Shamim Haider Patwary has demanded the ban of Ganadhikar Parishad’s activities. Meanwhile, some leaders of the National Party were marching in front of the police, who merely stood by doing nothing. Such behavior undermines law enforcement and threatens the democratic process.”
He concluded by warning that if such actions continue, the National Party may not be able to participate in future political activities or elections.
