Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, will leave for Singapore on Monday morning for advanced medical treatment on his doctors’ advice, the party has confirmed.
Abu Hanif, a member of the party’s Higher Council, said that although Nurul Haque was reluctant, his family and party leadership decided to send him abroad for treatment following medical recommendations. “We seek prayers from the people of the country for his speedy recovery,” he said.
Hanif also thanked the government for facilitating Nurul Haque’s treatment abroad but expressed concern over the lack of visible progress in holding the perpetrators accountable. “It has been 24 days since the attack, yet no punitive action has been taken. We strongly demand that the government bring those involved in the barbaric assault to justice without delay,” he added.
Nurul Haque Nur was seriously injured on August 29 when Gono Odhikar Parishad activists clashed with Jatiya Party members in front of the latter’s central office in Kakrail, Dhaka. Security forces later baton-charged Gono Odhikar Parishad members outside their office, leaving Nur with head injuries and a broken nasal bone.
Since then, the Gono Odhikar Parishad leader has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
