Plot underway to delay election deliberately: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that there is a deliberate and well-planned conspiracy to postpone Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections.

He made the remarks during a virtual speech at an event held this afternoon (Tuesday) at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka.

The meeting was organized to mark the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.

In his speech, Mirza Fakhrul said, “A dark shadow is looming over the new hope created by the blood of thousands of students and citizens to establish democracy and build a truly fascist-free Bangladesh. Efforts are underway to deprive people of their rights, especially their right to vote.”

He accused certain quarters of initiating divisive politics, stating, “Attempts are being made to divide society along communal and group lines.

A conspiracy is also underway to pit state institutions against each other.”

The BNP leader further claimed that “elements have infiltrated the government and are working to destabilize the country and derail it from its intended course.”

Given the situation, Fakhrul urged all BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant and prepared to resist any conspiracies aimed at undermining the political process.

As part of the observance of Ziaur Rahman’s martyrdom anniversary, the BNP will begin an eight-day series of programs starting May 25.

Youth rallies are scheduled in Dhaka on May 27 and 28. On May 29, a discussion meeting will be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh at 3 PM. On May 30, BNP leaders and supporters will pay tribute at Ziaur Rahman‍‍`s grave.
