Press secretary expects Jamaat to join next consensus commission dialogue

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is expected to participate in the upcoming discussion with the National Consensus Commission scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday. The expectation was conveyed by Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka this afternoon, Shafiqul Alam stated, "We have spoken with Jamaat-e-Islami. We believe they will join tomorrow’s discussion."

Addressing allegations that the government and the National Consensus Commission are biased in their operations, the Press Secretary said, "We are making every effort to maintain complete neutrality. Every political party involved in the mass uprising holds equal importance to us. We believe the National Consensus Commission is maintaining its impartial position. The ongoing dialogue is crucial for implementing reforms."

Shafiqul Alam emphasized the government‍‍`s neutral stance toward all political parties engaged in the movement. "We are equally neutral towards everyone. We do not know why Jamaat-e-Islami did not participate in today‍‍`s session. However, we have been in contact with them and expect their participation tomorrow."

Earlier today, at around 11:45 AM, the second phase of the National Consensus Commission’s incomplete dialogue with political parties resumed at the Doel Hall of the Foreign Service Academy. Jamaat-e-Islami did not attend this session.

According to sources within the National Consensus Commission, Jamaat-e-Islami had officially informed the commission of their decision to abstain from today’s meeting.

The party reportedly believes that it was deliberately sidelined following the joint declaration made after a recent meeting in London between the Chief Adviser and Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). As a form of protest, Jamaat chose not to join today‍‍`s discussion.

The ongoing dialogue remains critical for achieving national consensus and advancing the reform process.
