Proposed budget unrealistic, lacks structural reform: Amir Khasru

BNP has strongly criticized the proposed national budget for the 2025–26 fiscal year, calling it unrealistic and lacking both qualitative and structural changes.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Sarina in Banani on Monday, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said the proposed budget has no meaningful connection with actual revenue generation.

He remarked that if the government relies on loans from banks, private sector investment will be squeezed. “The entire revenue income will be spent on operational expenses. Budgeting should be based on actual revenue, not borrowing,” he asserted.

Khasru also expressed dissatisfaction with the fundamental direction of the budget. “There remains a significant gap in addressing the core issues. We see no qualitative shift, and the structural framework remains unchanged,” he said.
