Shakib Al Hasan, captain of the national cricket team and world famous all-rounder, has been elected as a member of parliament from Magura-1 constituency in the 12th national parliamentary elections.
Shakib won an absolute victory by getting 1 lakh 85 thousand 388 votes as Awami League`s candidate in the National Parliament Election which ended at 4 pm on Sunday.
According to the returning officer`s office sources, Shakib`s closest rival, Kazi Rezaul Hossain of Bangladesh Congress got 5 thousand 994 votes in (Coconut symbol). Among the other three contenders in this seat, Jatiya Party Md. Sirajus Saifin (plough symbol) got 2 thousand 143 votes, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) M Motasim Billa (television symbol) got 654 votes and Trinamool BNP`s Sanjoy Kumar Roy (Sonali Aash) got 868 votes.
