The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen the bank account of former cricket captain and star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

A BFIU official confirmed this news on Wednesday, November 6.

This action follows an investigation that began on October 2.

The BFIU had asked for information about the bank accounts of Shakib, his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir, and his business operations, in connection with possible financial irregularities and market manipulation.

After looking into the matter, the BFIU took the decision to freeze the accounts based on instructions from the government.

Shakib, who is currently in the United States with his family, is now even less likely to return to Bangladesh anytime soon.

He had already said he wouldn’t play in the upcoming West Indies series, and now it’s uncertain whether he will return to cricket at all.

Shakib has already retired from Test and T20 cricket.

In the 2024 national elections, Shakib was elected as a Member of Parliament from Magura-1, running with the ruling Awami League‍‍`s nomination.

However, on August 5, after the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fell, Shakib was named as a suspect in a murder case filed at the Adabor Police Station.
