Amar Bangladesh Party, AB Party, held a demonstration in solidarity with the nationwide strike observed peacefully on Monday afternoon around Bijoy 71 square of Polton area.
Mojibur Rahman Monju, Member Secretary of AB Party, spoke as chief guest at the event. He called upon the government and Election Commission to suspend the schedule declared last week until a level playing field is created so that all political parties can take part in this grand exercise of democratic process. It would be a farce to hold the election while putting entire opposition leadership behind bar on flimsy grounds, detaining tens of thousands of activists on trumped up cases. Apart from the ruling party and it’s created king’s parties, entire mainstream opposition block denounced this election schedule. If the regime goes ahead with this one-sided election, without giving dialogue a chance, the country would suffer immensely in coming months and years.
Asaduzzaman Fuaad, a barrister-at-law and Joint Member Secretary of the party, said we have witnessed the regime’s desperate and demeaning comments towards our members of diplomatic community and crucial development partners which is not only a breach of Vienna convention but also beyond minimum courtesy and etiquette. We must warn members of our business community who have been happily supporting this authoritarian regime for years. If the demand for living wage is not implemented and suppression on the garment workers is continued, it would adversely affect our export markets to the western countries, USA and Europe in particular.
