The premises of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) has turned into a battlefiled as several groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) locked into clashes over the announcement of a conference in the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Business Education each. Some five people have been injured in the incident so far known.
Clashes broke out on Friday (January 6) at noon. The clashes were continuing while the report was published.
According to sources, clashes broke out among different groups of the BCL over the announcement of a conference at the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Business Education, turning the campus as a battlefield. Emadul Hossain, General Secretary of the university unit Chhatra League announced the suspension of the conference with a status on Facebook over the conflict.
On the spot, it was seen that bricks bats were being thrown from the roof on the hall provosts along with the proctor, student counseling and guidance office director. University authorities are trying to control the situation. No one was immediately available for comment on the incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahparan Police Station Anisur Rahman confirmed the matter. He said, “The police are staying at the scene. Efforts are underway to bring the situation under control. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.”
