Symbol must be Shapla, otherwise we’ll see how the election takes place: Sarjis

The North Zone chief of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), Sarjis Alam, has warned the Election Commission (EC) that the party will challenge any denial of the ‘Shapla’ (water lily) election symbol. Alam issued the warning in a Facebook post on Tuesday (23 September).

He wrote, “The Election Commission secretary has stated that the Shapla is not on the list of approved symbols, so NCP cannot receive it. This is not a legal barrier, but simply because it is missing from the list. From the day NCP first applied for registration, it was clearly stated that we want the Shapla as our symbol. Who was responsible for leaving it off the list? Have they been merely watching the election commission perform a drama, or have they been taking instructions from another institution, party, or agency?”

Saris added, “All forms of deceit will be countered politically. Since there is no legal impediment, the NCP’s symbol must be Shapla. There is no alternative.”

He further warned, “Otherwise, we will see how any election takes place and who dreams of coming to power and enjoying its benefits.”
