A distorted educational and corrupt social system was formed in the hands of Ziaur Rahman, HM Ershad and Begum Khaleda Zia, said Awami League Organising Secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
He said, Bangladesh was forcibly pushed towards darkness through the assassination of Bangabandhu three and half years after the country achieved independence. The post-1975 generation was deprived of knowing the true events of the liberation war.
Khalid, also the State Minister for Shipping, came up with the remarks while addressing a programme as a chief guest at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnes Mujib auditorium of the National Museum in the capital on Sunday.
The programme was organised by Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu-Kishore Parishad Dhaka city unit marking the organisation’s 34th founding day. Sports and educational materials were handed over to the children during the ceremony.
While speaking to the programme Khalid said, “We became a nation of pride through the liberation war. But, with the assassination of Bangabandhu, we lost the pride. Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina is leading the country forward to build the Golden Bangla dreamt by Bangabandhu. We regained our lost pride under her leadership.”
He said, “The entire world is now remembering and following Bangladesh. The prime minister is being applauded. The palp spread among 18 crores of people. We have to take a vow to uphold the pride.”
“The 15 August assailants wanted to push the nation towards darkness by killing Sheikh Russel in 1975. But the activists of Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu-Kishore Parishad proved, hundreds of thousands of Sheikh Russel are born at every home in Bangladesh.”
Urging every member of the organisation to be a good citizen the state minister said, “We want to keep Sheikh Russel alive through the activities of this organisation, through our works. Sheikh Russel Jatiyo Shishu-Kishore Parishad has been working for 34 years to uphold true history. The role this organisation played in the cultural and sports arenas is also appreciating.”
