Prothom Alo journalist Samsuzzaman Shams, who was picked up from Savar early Wednesday (4:30am) by plain cloth law enforcers introduced themselves as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) members, was sued under a Digital Security Act, 2018 case.

Syed Golam Kibria filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station around 2:15am.

He is the general secretary of Ward 11 of Dhaka north city unit Jubo League, the youth wing of ruling party.

Kibria said he filed the lawsuit which was not politically motivated.

According to the case file, the complainant charged him with publishing a falsified and misleading story in the newspaper Prothom Alo.

Shams, a Staff Reporter (Savar Correspondent) of Bangla daily Prothom Alo, was picked up from his home in Savar’s Ambagan which is close to Jahangirnagar University, by officials of CID in plainclothes.

Raju Mondol, a sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station who accompanied the law enforcers, confirmed the media that a CID team from Dhaka picked up Shams from his home.

However, CID's spokesperson Azad Rahman told the media that he was yet to get any information in this regard.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, later said Shams was arrested in a case filed over a report published on the country's Independence Day.
