A proposal to produce yarn out of banana plant fibres was made at the fourth conference of the Deputy Commissioners (DCs), said Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi.
“The government has taken the proposal seriously and will look into it,” the minister told the reporter on Wednesday.
Since Bangladesh has a large number of banana plants, the DCs came up with this proposal.
Gazi said, “Government will ask research organizations to check the feasibility of the proposal. If it is viable, we can substitute banana plant yarn with cotton yarn.”
The government's initiatives to increase the use of jute-made products were discussed also.
The fourth edition of DC Conference, an annual meeting of the administrative heads of the districts, started on Tuesday.
