Bangladeshi OTT platform Chorki launched its services globally on Monday (July 12). The Mediastar LTD (sister concern of Transcom and owner of Prothom Alo and ABC Radio) owned streaming platform was in its development stage since 2015.
The platform made headlines when it announced that that it would release one original film every month. Bangladeshi OTT enthusiasts were eagerly waiting for Chorki since its announcement.
The launching ceremony of the platform was held online and was simultaneously broadcasted in major Bangladeshi television networks on Monday evening in the presence of the filmmaker and Chorki COO Redoan Rony. The innovative launching ceremony was presented by acclaimed actor Jaya Ahsan.
The OTT platform went global with 200 streaming content, including local and international movies, series, shows, and documentaries.
"The wait is over," said Rony. "Through this initiative, we, producers, directors, actors, and crew, can come together who share one common goal – creating quality content in Bangla and let our audience from any part of the world enjoy our creations."
The platform offers several subscription packages starting from Tk50/a month. Chorki has its own web, android and iOS apps. The contents also supports several smart TVs and chromecast.
Director Adnan Al Rajeev’s web film "Youtumer," starring Pritom Hasan and Ziaul Hoque Polash in lead roles, will be available to stream on the night of this Eid-ul-Azha.
Rabiul Alam Robi’s anthology short film series "Unoloukik," starring Asaduzzaman Noor, Chanchal Chowdhury, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, Gazi Rakayet, Iresh Zaker, Rafiath Rashid Mithila is already online.
Amitabh Reza’s “Munshigiri” and internationally acclaimed filmmaker Kamar Ahmed Simon’s upcoming film “Neel Mukut” will also debut on this platform.
Apart from original content, Chorki also lets viewers access to classic Bangla films and TV serials.
